Sewing is a blast! Together we will begin the journey of creating on the sewing and embroidery machine. If you are a beginner and have never stitched a stitch on a sewing machine you are in the right place at Makers Northwest Sewing Studio.
Sewing is your teachers passion!
Meg started sewing at age 10.
Her dad gave her left-handed sewing scissors for Christmas when she was 11. In Jr. High home economics Meg made white pants and a pastel and white striped camisole with yellow flower buttons. At the end of the quarter, Meg's sewing teacher put on a tea and fashion show so that her students could model what they had just created on the sewing machine.
Meg was hooked!
In high school Meg continued to sew in school. At age 15 1/2 she was in charge of a small fabric section at Sprouse Ritz where she ordered fabric, patterns, thread and sewing notions.
During the summers while in college Meg worked at Fabricland.
Her manager asked if Meg could go help open a new Fabricland store in Lynnwood, Washington. Meg was so excited to help. After the store was all set up the corporate management team asked Meg if she would like to manage the new store. Can you guess her answer? At age 21 Meg was the new store manager and had over 20 employees. Meg was awarded rooky manager of the year because of excellent customer service and highest sales. A few store managers made custom sewn outfits from the fabric collections sold at Fabricland and participated in a traveling fashion show to all of the Fabricland Stores in Washington and Oregon. Meg modeled several outfits she made as well as a beautiful wedding dress.
At age 22 Meg met the love of her life and got married at 23. John and Meg have been married for 39 years as of this writing and have 5 amazing married children and 11 grandchildren.
While Meg was raising her family she had a cottage sewing business where she made custom clothing, home décor, embroidering items, commissioned art work, and altered and mended clothes for her clients. Her children were often dressed in matching outfits much like the Von Trapp Family in the "Sound of Music" movie.
Meg picked up clothes from a local dry cleaner where she mended and altered the garments at home.
When her children were in school Meg taught drama, art and science to grades 5th through high school. She also help produce the K-12 end of the year all school drama presentation where each 120+ students had a part.
Meg enjoyed working and teaching sewing classes at Quality Sewing and Vacuum. She loved helping people find the right sewing machine and taught them how to use their new sewing machine. She taught serger club, quilting classes and was a classroom teacher/helper at Sew Expo in Puyallup. Meg was involved in many embroidery events and trade shows.
Partnering with a friend at the Kirkland Rotary Club, Meg wrote beginning sewing lesson plans to help start three sewing schools in Antigua on the Caribbean Island near St. John.
(See the photo gallery for photos of the sewing school in Antigua as well as some of the items
Meg has sewn over the years.)
Meg decided it was time to retire from her successful real estate business and start a sewing teaching business called Makers Northwest LLC. Her home has a large sewing studio set up and ready to teach her new friends.
Meg's shining qualities are achiever, connectedness, activator, empathy and positivity.
Meg looks forward to teaching you sewing skills so that you can make wonderful items with a
sewing machine.
Will your child be the next maker?
Makers Northwest LLC was founded in June of 2022 for the simple fact that creating with a sewing/embroidery machine is fun, practical and important. At the Makers NW home based studio you learn all about sewing, machine embroidery, quilting, applique', garment construction, garment alterations, and so much more. You will understand how to use a pattern to create a cute new outfit. We will even have a group fashion show for your friends and family when you are all finished with your project. What fun!
Down the road will be sponsoring regional events for makers. Some ideas we have are fairs, shows, competitions, fashion shows, tours, shopping and sewing trips.
Also, coming in the future is a marketplace were you can buy and sell sewing related items and your sewn items locally.
To register for our Sewing Classes the Parent/Guardian will need to fill out our welcome registration packet. To see the classes go to the class calendar for the dates, times and class fee.
